What is Singles' Day?

Singles Day dates back to the 1990s, and was born thanks to two students from Nanjing University in China. The initial idea was to celebrate being single, considering the positive aspects. Soon other universities spread the idea and soon many more people began to recognize this day. In 2009, one of the largest online stores in China adopted the idea and turned it into a day of shopping. Since then, Singles' Day has been a day when people give themselves a gift, or give it to someone else, regardless of their relationship situation. Think of it a bit like the opposite of Valentine's Day!
